Follow Your Calling
"I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well." (Psalm 139:14)
Do you ever think of yourself as wonderfully made? It is easy to be awe inspired by the Grand Canyon, sunsets, waterfalls, and wild flowers, but are you ever in awe of the gifts God gave you?
I know I've spent the last 45 (soon to be 46) years of my life not being impressed with me. I've watched other people succeed and live out dreams, and looked at them with pure envy and coveted what they had. It hasn't been an overt jealousy. In fact, I have never given much thought about how much I look at what "successful" people have.
I know I've spent way too many years thinking my gifts weren't good enough because there is always someone out there who can do what I do better. I know I'm good at self criticizing, and criticizing others. I'm very good and picking apart what others do and interjecting what I would have done to make the outcome a thousand times better. But do I step out in faith and prove myself just as capable?
No.
And I'm going to guess that you haven't either. So today, right now, this minute, will you agree to take a journey of discovery with me?
Today, you and I will move forward from our self doubt, our jealously of what other people have/do, and more importantly, we will move past our fear or failure, our fear of not being good enough, and our fear of being judged by others. We will step into the person God made us to be, and embrace our gifts as fearfully, wonderfully made. We will seek help when we need it, give help to others when they need a hand-up, and we will stop worrying about making the world happy. Because in case you don't know this, you will never be able to make the world happy. If you are a follower of Christ, by definition, the world is going to hate you.
"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you." (John 15:18)
So now that we've established that the world is going to hate you, let's just get on with the business of completing the task that God has set before us. He made each of us for a purpose and task, and equipped each of us with the necessary skills to complete those tasks.
We don't have the same gifts, and we won't use them in the same way. That is perfectly okay. There is nothing in this world wrong with that.
I have a journalism degree. I love to write. And I believe my gift is to launch a publication that will help encourage and equip Christians to follow Christ, and stop letting the "culture" direct our steps.
So July 28 was the date that I stepped out in faith to see where God leads me. And I did it with recipes to make sharable gifts, and stories that inspired me -- and hopefully will inspire you -- to always be thinking about how to give.
